Kemi Badenoch, MP for North West Essex, visited Carver Barracks to mark Armed Forces Week and to meet soldiers from the Royal Engineers’ Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) regiments based at the site.
The visit was hosted by Lt Col Bobby Hewitt RE, Commanding Officer, and attended by James Cartlidge MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Defence. Together they met with service personnel, viewed equipment on the parade ground and received briefings on the highly specialised work carried out by EOD teams.
During the visit, Mrs Badenoch was given a demonstration of a bomb-disposal robot, spoke to soldiers inside a Mastiff patrol vehicle, and viewed drone technology used in field operations. She also discussed the long-term future of the site and local support for military families.
Carver Barracks, located near Wimbish, is home to several regiments responsible for countering explosive threats both in the UK and on overseas deployments.
Commenting, Mrs Badenoch said:
"Carver Barracks plays a vital role in our national defence and I was proud to visit during Armed Forces Week to show my support.
“The professionalism, technical skill and bravery of the soldiers I met is something our country can be deeply proud of.
“In North West Essex, we are fortunate to have such a committed military community, and I will continue to speak up for them — particularly on issues that affect service families and their access to public services."
