Kemi Badenoch and Local MPs Engage with Hertfordshire and West Essex ICB to Improve Audiology Services
Recently, Kemi Badenoch, MP for North West Essex, alongside several Conservative colleagues, wrote to the Hertfordshire and West Essex Integrated Care Board (ICB) to explore ways to support improvements in adult community audiology services across the region.
Hearing loss has a significant impact on individuals’ wellbeing, affecting communication, confidence, and overall health. Ensuring timely and accessible audiology care is particularly important for North West Essex’s older rural communities.
In response, the ICB outlined ongoing challenges including variation in waiting times between providers, difficulties in recruiting audiologists, and ageing equipment. The ICB is currently focusing on enhancing children’s audiology services, recognising the vital role hearing plays in early development, before moving on to redesign adult ENT and community audiology pathways to better serve local patients.
Commenting, Mrs Badenoch said:
“I welcome the ICB’s commitment to improving audiology services and their clear plan to prioritise children’s care before expanding adult services.
“Hearing loss deeply affects people’s lives, and it is vital that residents of North West Essex can access timely and local support.
“I will continue to work constructively with the ICB to ensure these improvements are delivered, creating a modern and accessible audiology service that meets the needs of our communities.”
