Happy New Year. As we enter 2026, there is a lot to look forward to. Not Labour’s tax rises, of course, but a Winter Olympics, a World Cup, and for political geeks, local elections too.
Last year was a difficult one for many people. Britain saw no growth, higher taxes, and record unemployment, with too many families worrying about their jobs and their futures. Here in North West Essex, I hear that anxiety regularly. From farmers facing the deeply unfair Family Farm Tax, to small businesses struggling under excessive business rates, many feel they are being squeezed from every direction.
It is becoming harder for people to imagine life actually getting better. But we should not lose hope. Britain is not destined for decline. We are a great country, full of talent, resilience, humour and strength. Things can change, but only if we have a serious plan for change.
That is why my Conservative team is working on a clear policy programme to get Britain working again. A plan to back business, restore growth, and fix our economy. We believe in rewarding work, backing enterprise, and putting the makers first.
Locally, I will continue to fight for North West Essex. That means advocating for a fair evaluation of an underground alternative to Norwich–Tilbury pylons, supporting farmers facing an uncertain future, fighting to repeal the taxes and regulations pushing businesses on the brink. It also means championing the thousands of families, young people, and entrepreneurs who make our area thrive.
Politics matters because it shapes the future we hand to the next generation. Do not let the politics of grievance convince you that nothing can change. Things can change, but only if people vote for the change they want to see in 2026.
I am not giving up on our country, and I hope you will not either. I wish you all a very happy, healthy and hopeful New Year.
