Local MP and Leader of the Conservative Party, Kemi Badenoch, is calling on Andy Burnham to keep the 5p cut to fuel duty.
The last Conservative Government froze fuel duty for 14 years, and when Putin launched his barbaric invasion of Ukraine, they cut fuel duty by 5p per litre to protect businesses and families.
Keir Starmer delayed planned increases from September until the end of December 2026. However, this is not good enough. When Parliament returns at the start of September, Mrs Badenoch is calling on Andy Burnham to give reassurances to businesses and families that the Government will not proceed with this planned increase.
Families and businesses across Uttlesford and Chelmsford rely on their cars to get to work, health appointments, school runs, if Labour goes ahead with this planned fuel duty hike families with two cars will pay an extra £156 between 2026 and 2029.

“Andy Burnham must take action when Parliament returns and pledge to keep the fuel duty cut. Families and businesses must be protected from rising costs, not used to fund a government spending spree.
“As we approach the end of the year, motorists across North West Essex need urgent reassurance from the Government that they will not be hit with higher prices at the pump.”
